Valuations can be for individual properties, groups of properties, portfolios and whole estates; investments, developments, operational or closed businesses. The reasons for valuations carried out are numerous, with examples being:

• For sale or purchase
• Taxation or company accounts
• Secured lending, securitisation or other financial purposes
• Insolvency and recovery
• Rental valuations
• Inheritance Tax or Capital Gains Tax
• Compulsory purchase
• Company takeovers or corporate restructuring
• Court and legal disputes

Most members can provide RICS ‘Red Book’ valuations and also valuations that are approved by major banks, building societies and other lenders.
